Anxiety is a very common nervous disorder that cause fear, nervousness and panic. Even Hippocrates wrote about anxiety in the fourth century BCE. Soren Kierkegaard mentioned it in the 1860 while Freud in 1926. Nowadays, anxiety is a common problem that affects especially the young population.
Anxiety is usually treated with traditional method of using pharmaceutical drugs. Also, another approach is the cognitive therapy.
Other people tend to treat anxiety with yoga, meditation, massage, some other relaxation methods as well as music. The music turned to be a successful method of treating such disorder. According to the UK neuroscientists, there is even a single song that significantly reduces the overall anxiety by 65%.
GENERATION Y AND ANXIETY
According to a survey in 2013, nearly 57% of the female university students from America suffered from anxiety. While in the UK, almost a third of young women and one in ten men experienced panic attacks.
Marjorie Wallace, states that the generation Y (1980-1990) belong to the age of desperation. The reasons for such age may be the increased development of technology, overprotective parenting and luxury of having too much choice.
According to the London-based psychologist, Pieter Kruger, people who feel they have no choice in life are stronger because simply they blame life if they make the wrong decision. In case of other people who have many choices, they have no one to blame but themselves. In this case, they become more obsessed because they want to make the right decision every time.
The writer, Claire Eastham in her blog “We Are All Mad Here” states that people spend time worrying about their lives, but if they are told what to do, then the pressure goes away.
Nowadays, such decision making can bring about a type of paralysis. For example, when looking for shoes, you will search the whole day until you feel exhausted and guilty for such a simple task.
Another reason for anxiety is the rapid development of technology. People are obsessed with their smartphones and gadgets so that they become completely disconnected from the environment.
They have a fear known as Fomo (Fear of Missing Out) so that’s why they want to be informed of what is doing on the social media.
Kruger points out that people can get addicted to this fear which can affect the level of anxiety and the overall wellbeing.
The media has allowed people to compare everything from figure, relationship, wealth, not only with the people you know but with other celebrities. This can further make people depressed and hopeless.
The neuroscientists have found that listening to some specially designed song can play a significant role in the levels of anxiety.
THE CREATION OF THE ULTIMATE ANTI-STRESS MUSIC
The scientists from the Mindlab International wanted to find out the type of music that relaxes the people the most. The study included participants that experienced a certain degree of stress. They listened some songs and the scientist measured their blood pressure, brain activity, heart rate and rate of breathing.
One particular song “Weightless” reduced almost 65% of the overall anxiety of the participants and 35% of the physiological resting rate.
Here is the song, so relax and enjoy.
This song was specifically designed to promote a highly-relaxed state. This song was created by the Marconi Union and the musicians carefully arranged the rhythms, harmonies and bass lines that slowed the listener’s blood pressure and heart rate as well as cortisol, the stress hormone.
